NHAI, officials meet over flyover

GURGAON: After getting rapped by Punjab and Haryana high court, the officials of National Higways Authority of india (NHAI) and Haryana government held a meeting to discuss the plan to decongest the Hero Honda crossing in Gurgaon.
In the meeting held in Chandigarh, a senior government official said, the joint committee discussed the innovative Japanese model for decongesting the Hero Honda crossing. “The plan of ‘Osaka model’ (elevated road model) proposed by the road transport and highways ministry, was discussed in detail and also the roadmap for going ahead with the project,” said a senior state government official who was present in the meeting.
The meeting came down heavily on the state government over the delay in constructing a flyover at the Hero Honda crossing. The court was hearing a petition moved by Hero Honda Sangharsh Samiti, which is demanding a permanent solution to the mess at Hero Honda Chowk. The court had ordered the state government to hold a meeting with NHAI and put the work of constructing flyover on a fast-track mode.
In the meeting both NHAI and Haryana government officials had emphasized the utilities of the Osaka model. In a nutshell, as per the innovative model, the roads will pass through the second and third floors of a multistorey building to be constructed by a developer. In the beginning the state government was not keen on the project but now given its unique feature the initial reluctance has dwindled.
“There was a reference by NHAI chairman to the innovative model and now there is clear agreement on how to go about it,” said another senior Haryana PWD official. As per the tentative plan, the skyscraper will have 16 floors and designed to facilitate a multi-layered elevated corridor for decongesting Hero Honda Chowk. The building will have three layers of carriageway and commercial space on the top and on both sides from the ground level to recover the cost. The officials said that the next meeting will be held in 10 days before the next date of court hearing. “The court will be duly informed about the discussion and the plan,” said the official.
